Meet Queenie & Aggie McPooch

My Library has two new early literacy sidekicks for Miss Michelle and Miss Casey (who now does Miss Suzanne's job at MPL).  Meet Queenie (the cow) and Aggie McPooch.

Sammy the Toucan is a tough act to follow, but I think Queenie and Aggie will be great fun for Miss Michelle's video blog (and Miss Casey's videos, too).

Meet Miss Michelle

Meet Miss Michelle, new MPL early literacy associate.  Sammy the Toucan interviews her in this introductory video.

Miss Michelle is a MSTie (i.e., fan of MST3K--Mystery Science Theater 3000), so I know we will get along smashingly.

Welcome, Miss Michelle!

That's One Big Heart!

Thanks to our former early literacy specialist, Miss Jaymi, the Indiana University Health-Morgan Hospital (in Martinsville, Indiana) will be providing blood pressure and cholesterol screenings at the Library on Monday, September 10, 2012, from 1-5 p.m.

Want to hear the really exciting part of this program?

A Heart Two Stories Tall!

Yep.  I.U. Health-Morgan Hospital will have an inflatable two-story heart that patrons may walk through to learn more about how it works.  Anything that large has got to be fun to romp around in!  If you can attend, by all means do.  You'll learn more about your heart and get some important health screenings to boot.

Flat Five's Visit to WWPL

As part of her library critters world tour, "Flat" Cauli V, or Flat Five for short, has filed her report from her visit to Westfield Washington Public Library, in Westfield, Indiana.  She even took a dip into WWPL's favorite fishes aquarium!

Our Starry Night Mural

Miss Suzanne, whom I call Broadway Gal (because she's a stage actress--really and truly), has just published a commemorative storybook called The Journey to Our Starry Night Mural.  It's a fun read and has some great pictures.  Click the images below to make them bigger.

Since not everybody wants his or her face posted to the Internet, we borrowed Vincent Van Gogh's face from a famous painting, did some quick editing with Photoshop, and, suddenly, everyone is a famous 19th century Dutch post-Impressionist painter!

Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890)

Thanks to our sponsors for making this project possible.  Thanks, too, to our many volunteers and patrons whose talents made the mural a beautiful reality.

Some Video Clips From Our 100th Anniversary Party

We have some videos from the Library's centennial celebration last Saturday, May 12, 2012.  The first four are snippets of Dancing Through the Decades, and interactive program with the Fred Astaire Dancers.  Then there was a Monarch butterfly release at the end of festivities.

Meet Alicia, Our New SLIS Intern

Sammy the Toucan interviews the Library's new summer intern, Miss Alicia, who hails from the Indiana University-Bloomington School of Library Science (SLIS), where she is completing her master's degree. This will be Alicia's second master's, so she has quite a bit of learning under her hat.  Well, she's not actually wearing a hat in the video, but you know what I mean.

Welcome, Miss Alicia!  We hope you enjoy interning with Miss Suzanne, Miss Rachel, Miss Jaymi, Miss Miriam, and Sammy the Toucan in MPL Youth Services.

Don't miss the Library's 100th anniversary celebration on Saturday, May 12, 2012.  Here's the fun you'll have when you drop by the Library on our special day.  A party like this only happens once in a hundred years, so you won't want to miss it.

Cool Press Hat, Cauliette

Cauliette has an authentic press corps hat, made especially by the Library's business manager, Sharon Hicks, whom I call the BizMeister.  It looks mighty spiffy!

We decided that Cauliette should be roving around the Library (like her namesake, only I roam outside) doing the reporter thing.  So we found an out-of-the-way spot by the Circulation Desk.

Be sure to say hello to Cauliette next time you drop by the Library.  She'll be around somewhere or other.  Maybe we should make a game out of finding her at the Library!  That could be fun.
